9. OGM Muxing and Cutting

This step is the final stage of the process, where all the files produced are multiplexed into the single OGM file. This page also includes instructions for successfully cutting an OGM into 2 parts.

Step#1: Open The Encoded AVI In VirtualDubMod.

  1. Click File and select Open video file... or press Ctrl-O.
  2. Select the encoded AVI file.

Step#2: Adding Stream Comments.

-Click Streams and select Video comments.

To add a comment, select the tag in the drop-down box, enter the comment into the Value field, and click Add

Comments can also be Edited and Deleted. Just select the comment, click Delete to remove the comment, or modify the comment in the Value field, and click Edit.

-Click OK when done.

There are 2 comments that are compulsory in Zhentarim Rips, Title and Language.
  • Title should be written in the format of Name - Episode Number - Episode Name if it is a series, or just the Name if it is a film.
  • Language should be anything but null. If it is null it shows up as Video 0 in the OGGDS menu, and that isn't pretty! Recommend using Episode X: Episode Name.

Step#3: Adding The Chapters.

-Click Streams and select Video chapters.

There are 2 ways of setting up the chapters.

  1. Importing the chapters from a text file created with Chapter-X-tractor (see previous section of this guide). This is done by clicking Import and selecting the text file.
  2. 2# Entering the values manually. This is done by entering the time in the Time field, entering the chapter name in the Name field, and clicking Add. To get the exact time, click OK and scan through the video while holding down SHIFT (this locks VDubMod to the Keyframes of the AVI) and copy the time displayed in the status bar at the bottom.
Hint: Chapters will only start from keyframes in the OGM with the ogg splitter's default settings. Since it's an ogg splitter "feature" that can be disabled there's no real reason to compensate for it by changing the chapter start/inserting keyframes.

Step#4: Adding The Audio/Subs.

-Click Streams and select Stream list.

-Click Add to load the ogg/srt files into the Stream list.

-Once back to the Streams list, highlight a stream and click Comments. This will load a the Stream Comments, Shown below (Note: it is a different window to the one shown in Step#2).

The first tag is added by Headac3he (that is if you used Headac3he to encode the audio) which may be deleted (optional). Only one tag needs to be set for each audio/sub stream, and that is the language. Change the drop-down box to Language, and enter the language into the Value field.

-Click OK when done.

-Repeat for all the audio/sub streams in the list.

Step#5: Saving The OGM.

-Click Video and select Direct stream copy.

-Click File and select Save As... (alternatively you can just press F7).

-Enter the filename.

-Change Save as type: to Ogg Media File (*.ogm). Make sure Video mode is set to Direct stream copy.

-Click Save.

Cutting an OGM (for 2CD encodes)

-Either follow steps #1-#4 above or open the complete OGM in VDubMod.

-Make sure the trackbar is on frame 0 and click Mark in (or press Home).

-Hold down Shift and drag the trackbar along to the point at which you wish to cut. (note: The VDubMod status bar shows how big the file will be once cut; hint: holding down Shift whilst using the trackbar makes sure you always keep to keyframes)

-Once you have found a suitable place to cut, make a note of the frame number, go back 1 frame and click Mark out (or press End).

-Click File and Save as (or press F7). (note: make sure Direct Stream Copy is selected)

-For the second part, go to Edit and Go to (or press Ctrl-G), and enter the frame number you noted down earlier and click Mark in (or press Home). (hint: double check that it is a keyframe, by checking the status bar for [K] which can be found just after the timestamp)

-Move the trackbar to the last frame (or press Ctrl-Right arrow) and click Mark out (or press End).

-Click File and Save as (or press F7). (note: make sure Direct Stream Copy is selected)
